The 1957 herd had nine elephants. Before the 1958 season they sold Cora to Beers-Barnes and had to put Inez down. Babe died on the road in 1958. That brought them down to six. In 1960 the Norma five were added bring the herd up to eleven. The picture first appears in the 1958 program book.
Hold everything- we discussed this picture before and it first appears in the 1956 book, so make this the '55 herd of nine. I'm an old man and make mistakes every day.
This photo also appears in Jane Beatty's 1965 book, DAVEY'S ADVENTURES WITH THE CLYDE BEATTY RAILROAD CIRCUS. She set the book on the rail show to give her greater freedom from legalities surrounding the truck show, operated since 1957 by Acme. When it was certain Mr. Beatty was terminal, Abelard-Schumann hurried publication so he could enjoy knowing the book was out. Some photos were vintage, but the storyline photos were real-time, featuring Eddie Dullem as Loppy the Clown, in a dreadful makeup he hated. He had long served as Clyde Jr.'s babysitter, and was cast as a token of reward, as he said, in lieu of financial consideration.

I'm going to say the 1957 Beatty herd with Colleen Alpaugh.
In the early 1960s, this particular photo was used year after year in the Cleveland Grotto Circus' souvenir program.
This photo ran for many years in
the CBCBC program book
