For those who know Andre Skarbecki, here is his monument.

He was buried on private property in Ponce De Leon, Fl. about 15 minutes from my ranch.

Roger Smith said...: Andre called me in '75 to come take over the Howard Suesz tigers and elephants. I told him I could work the tigers, but stated honestly up front that I was not an elephant man, and the elephants would know it. His call was an emergency. His girlfriend in Ft. Myers was critically injured in an auto accident and he was returning to her. So there was little time to haggle, and the elephants, Mary, Sue, and Marge were part of the deal. I joined out in Kearney, Nebraska, and Andre began at once to show me the tiger act. That was fine. Then we started on the elephants. I learned the routine, but nothing had made me an elephant man. As others have said about these girls, they were sweethearts, and let a guy like me look far better than I was. But that season with them, I fell in love with elephants. As we all know, they are compelling in their intelligence and their ability to draw you into their world. I closed with Suesz that November, and never had elephants again. Andre did have his DVM degree, but alas, could not get licensed over here.; 01 July, 2014 14:15
