Troop Train #7


This chock block is being attached to the flat car’s wooden deck using spikes driven in by hand. (It is my understanding that circus chock blocks had metal spurs on the bottom side that dug into the decking to keep the wagons in place.)

When chalking a wagon, first the front chalks are set to where the wagon should rest and then the pull over team [horses or tractor] gives the hook roap a good tug while the men in back at the same time push the back chalks into the back wheels making sure the wagonj is "locked in".
