To Mickey's left are the three white bars of the man-door. Beatty wrote of them in his book, THE BIG CAGE, from which the movie of the same name was liberally fantasized. The white bars allowed him to find his way out when the going got hot, which with his arena filled with mixed lions and tigers, it often did. Good shots of this peril are in the picture.
