Harry wanted to see the 5 pole Vargas big top. I shot this in 1980 in the East Los Angeles area.

I'm glad you liked the picture. When I arrived on the lot that morning, I was really surprised to see the big top. I was just going to stay an hour or so, but I ended up spending the whole day. I saw and photographed both shows and the activity in the back yard. Great day.; 07 December, 2013 19:12

I got to see Vargas another way with 3 center poles in Galveston, Texas as they had a problem with a center pole and it needed work.
Also a few weeks back Carson and Barnes had a real muddy lot and just put up the 4 towers and no tent so open sky.
I bet you had the time of your life seeing 5 center poles as that is a rarity for them.
I really enjoyed seeing the 5 poler.

In all the years I saw Vargas, this was the only time I saw this 5 pole big top. I asked a few people in the back yard why, but never got an answer.
