I can barely remember seeing RBBB under canvas in Florence, SC in 1955 at the age of 7. I was just born about 25-30 years to late! I would have loved to have seen someting like this!!!
Hal, I also saw the 1955 Ringling show here in Beaumont, Texas and I was 7years old at the time. Yes I too feel I was born to late and came in on the tail end of it all but I still enjoyed what I saw back then. Harry in Texas
I envy you fellows, my Father was not into Circus, but when I asked him why he never took me to see RBBB under canvas (they played Paterson, NJ only a very few miles away and Grandma Louise, a real Circus Lover did take us every year for years to RBBB in the Olde Garden), he replied, "Who took you to see Hunt Bros and Mills Bros??" I guess it was somewhat of a draw. I'm still envious.
Cole Brothers had their biggest day of the year in 1948, in Traverse City, Michigan. Unfortunately I was not quite a year old at the time. I did see some great shows in later years, on the Rennie Hill lot. I never got to see Ringling Brothers under canvas, they only showed downstate.

What was the seating capacity of this top? My uneducated guess would be 12,000 or 14,ooo.
