"Capt. Roy Bush in the 1950's, I think this was the only show he was ever on and behind him, the ever reliable Shorty Sharp.
The big elephants in the upper right are long time Hunt elephants "Dolly", "Blanche" and "Jewel".
The other three are members of the five young elephants imported in 1949 "Chandre", "Seeta", "Rani", "Muna" and "Dinnu".
Louie Reed was hired to train them and he brought along Smokey Jones, both directly from the Dailey Show.
The act was put together in winter quarters but the Hunts asked Reed to go on the road for while to help Roy get them started.
Smokey often regaled me with stories of Reed early in the morning, pounding on the trailers with his cane yelling" Lets Go! Time to get up! You won't get this show up laying in bed!!
Later people would come to him and say.....Smokey, can you tell that old man not to go around raisin' Hell and waking people up?.....and he would always reply, "You tell that old man!"

Buckles, Is that the same Chandre that Tommy Hannerford had later on?
Yes it is.
Henry Bush, have you seen this?
Paul
Roy was Henrys uncle. Many years with Hunt, but believe he started as a punk on Downie Bros. Ended up on Tommy Hannefords circus. Quite a character to be sure. johnny
