"Jess" #2



I have told the story on the Blog many times in regard to the 12 old elephants Concello put up for sale at $2,000 a head the winter of 1947-48.
Obert, Kelly and D.R. quickly made a trip to Sarasota and offered to buy all 12 and after thinking it over Concello agreed to let them have 4 "Jess", "Vic" (Victoria), "Emma" and "Cross Country Babe".

Seen above is the 1956 Famous Cole herd, "Jess", "Myrtle" and "Norma Jean".

I remember D. R. telling us fans about this elephant buying trip and since he had to rent a railroad box car they decided to fill it up.
And then since Kelly miller was completion they only got 4 elephants.
Those were the days.
