"Diamond" #6

I have long held a theory that as a rule, the reason African elephants don't live as long as Asians in this country is that in their native environment they survive on what appears to be little more than sage brush and poison ivy.
Once they get on that Zoo diet they eat themselves to death.
In this picture "Diamond" looks more like a Pterodactyl.

A friend of mine, one of Germanys more well known veterinarians, agree with you on that point, and so do I.

When I was training and managing a group of 10 wild caought elephants in Zimbabwe 2003-2006, all they had was branches; mainly Mapane(Colophospermum mopane) and Donkey berries (Grewia flavescens). No hay during those years, and they were in excellent condition. But they had four loads delivered from the bush every day, and they were almost eating the stated 16 hours that wild elephants are supposed to spend browsing. Apart from cold, and damp hard floors, I also believe that many arthritis cases has an over feeding origin, too much protein in the food, leading among other things, to joint problems.
