Stewart Craven

As elephant herds with circuses grew larger, Craven is credited as being the innovator of the pyramid type elephant act in America introducing long mounts on bull tubs etc.
The first being with Howes Great London and later improved versions with the Forepaugh Show and Cooper & Bailey.
He later became a successful Animal Dealer and the owner of a large ranch near Dallas, Texas where he died Jan. 16, 1890.

The Howes show that arrived in the US in 1871 was their show that had toured England in 1870. It was to tour France in 1871 but the political violence taking place there caused Howes to bring it to the US. This raises the question of whether the pyramid trick already existed and therefore the role of Craven.

I have read that Craven imported elephants with the animal trader Charles Jamrach in London, adn tried unsuccesfully to find details on Internet. Is any of those elephants known by name, and their later whereabouts? How many elephants did he import?
