Chic: Most if not all of Alexander's paper was imprinted "A V Yaga, Bombay" but it is generally believed that the paper was printed in this country and the imprint was just part of the show.
Alexander (Claude Conlin) played the old Orpheum in Nashville at least twice.
One of his best tricks had a slant the public didn't know about. He would have a painting done by "spirits" and it was generally a portrait of some well-known person in that town.
What the audience didn't know was that Alexander's agent called on some local person the week before and explained that for a modest fee the spirits would execute a likeness of him.
Vanity always wins out. A prominent doctor went for the bait here in Nashville.
