Parley wss on Mid-Amercia Circus when I met him and the show played several towns here.
He was so nice to us fans.
Mid-Amercia was a very small show but Parley was ringmaster and made it even better.
I remember him as Mayor of Mayberry along with Howard McNear as Floyd the barber.
Harry in Texas
Isn't today also the date of JFK's
assassination? I was in DC on a street corner for 48 hours+ for his funeral.
Sure wish I could have had the pleasure of meeting Mr Baer.
Paul
And don't forget the role of Ernest J. Keebler.
p.j.
Parley voiced Ernie Keebler for 32 years, from 1965 until his first stroke in 1997. He called me once to say, "Boy, we had a scare at our house this week." I thought at once of Ernestine and the girls. "No," he said. "You probably heard that Nabisco bought Keebler, and we figured, well, they'll go with another actor for their elf. But they kept me." He had just gotten phone calls from both Nabisco headquarters and from the Leo Burnett Ad Agency, confirming his renewed contract. His Ernie Keebler characterization was so successful, it earned Parley a special section of honor in the company museum, in Battle Creek, Michigan. I helped him gather his memorabilia to send to them, among which was his 2-foot tall gold statue of the elf, inscribed with Parley's name.
Per Harry's comment: Parley co-owned Mid-America Circus with Bob Tripp.
As a kid I remembered him as the next door neighbor Darby in " The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet "
Parley and his wife Ernie were wonderful and always treated me like one of there own. I miss them and would like to give a shout out to Kim as well!!
