Back when I was growing up in Cleveland, Ohio in the 1950s, one of the most popular guests on local television was “Jungle Larry” Tetzlaff, who ran exotic animal exhibits at several of Cleveland’s amusement parks. “Jungle Larry” once explained how and why an alligator looses consciousness when it is on its back and someone is rubbing its stomach. Some of you probably know, too, and can explain it to the rest of us. |

In his biography THE STRONGMAN, stuntman Joe Bonomo describes the advantages of working with an alligator over a crocodile: “He lacks the double-hinged jaw the crocodile possesses. Only his lower jaw moves and that hinges down. If you can catch this lower jaw when it is open, you can HOLD it open, unless he twists away.” Bonomo filmed a death-by-crocodile scene with an alligator for DeMille for THE SIGN OF THE CROSS. Unfortunately, it looked so realistic that it had to be cut from the picture after people fainted while watching it at the preview. Today’s audiences would probably consider this scene as passé.
I thought that was a chicken, and you had to pump his legs and tuck his head under his wing!If you rub my rottie's belly she gets all happy, never fell asleep!Rick
