Gary, 47 in 1975 when I went to pick a few up to take to another show. 3 adult Asians, Paula the African and the rest baby Asians between the ages of 2 and 5. I always heard D. R. wanted 50 elephants on his show to celebrate it's 50th Anniversary. All of them had their names "stenciled" on their fore heads with white paint so they could be identified. A number still had capture marks on their necks, they were that green. They worked with a front leg chain on, draped over there neck, and were never taken off the picket line without the front chain staying on. The back leg chain was taken off the leg, and the front leg chain was taken off the picket line.

That's Kenny and Paula on the top left. He never let her out of his sight.

By 1976 the chains were off during the show - an occasional off to the races occurred however.
