In this frame, the lions are moving out at a brisk trot. Eventually they are running at a full gallop. (While negotiating a sharp curve, the cart tips over!) Back in the 1950s, there used to be a TV show called YOU ASKED FOR IT sponsored by Skippy Peanut Butter. People would write in, asking see some unusual stunt or act they had heard about. Lions pulling a wagon is the type of thing that would have been shown.
I can't nail your ID, either, Eric, but the Selig Zoo had lions in harness that pulled a vegetable cart. They stopped at various cages and the boys threw in the day's fodder for the herbivores.
Going back a few seasons, it was said Cleopatra's lion trainers had lion duos pulling chariots. I'm not sure they did so in battle, but they must have been a hit in her Specs, when Marc Antony and Caesar were in the starbacks.
Incidentally, Mabel Stark guested on YOU ASKED FOR IT. OK, youngsters, who hosted that show?
