This was an early attempt at a Motorized Circus that failed.
The elephants were leased from Rhoda Royal, "Muggins", "Carrie", "Victor" and "Helen" under the direction of "Elephant " Kelly.
Two years later Mr. Royal took out his own show which was added by a 16 year old runaway William Woodcock Sr.
By happenstance, his first job was working for Kelly in the Elephant Dept.

If this was a motorized show how

could that elephant crate on spoked

hard wheels have traveled overland

Looks like a shell bandwagon hooked behind the elephant van.

That would mean that the tractor pulled from the end where the elephants are unloading. In the early efforts at motorized circuses, there was no telling what sort of wheels would be used.

Because of the rough crude roads, very few paved, wheels of large diameter would have been better. Sort of like the old wagon days.

Isn't it odd that the elephants being unloaded already have their harness and headpieces on?

I'm sure this was a staged photo-op.

Transporting elephants was one of the major problems of the early truck shows.

Some of them just continued to walk the elephant(s) as they had done the year before when they were on wagons. Short jumps so it could be accomplished.

Yes, this was when wagons were wood and men were iron.
