Gary, It's looks like a reiner from the late 50's early 60's, doesn't it? They make them a whole lot softer and supple today, don't they? I wonder if her weight got thrown forward, when she kicked the stirrup? That horse look's like something come down hard on it's back. "Poetry in motion" is watching a little, highly schooled reiner carry a load like the great Tim McQuay or the equally great
or the equally great Tom McCutcheon and at the end of a hard hand gallop, sit down so soft, and paddle to a dead stop, and in the blink of eye roll back on a dime, and lope away. Just incredible what can be gotten out of those horse's with such ease.
Addendum to Gary, I bet if I put you in a shanked bit and a martingale, you would throw your head too. I bet if she went back and spent some more time with a snaffle, she would get that "broken poll" you mention.
From what I remember in the show, part of this act was the horse was driven at full speed across the arena and then stopped on a dime. From the audience's perspective you aren't sure if they are going to stop, the rider get tossed over the horse's head or they go splat into the wall.
Larry, That is what the horse is attempting here, only with the head in the position it is, it is not going to slide, it is going to "bounce" to a stop like a car with bad brakes. They roll back on a "dime" and give you change. :)
I agree Wade. I need to send you a photo of my reiner doing a sliding stop...:)) He was on the cover of Horse and Rider doing a slide as a 5yr old..:) I am Sorting on him nowdays but he lopes with his head like a peanut roller..
Tim is a great rider for alittle fat guy!! Its OK I know him, I shod some horses for a very good friend of his that had some of Tims at his place for awhile.
Having ridden in this act and believing its the best act of the show when done properly, the sight of this picture really hurts me. I would like to hope it was just a bad night but......
Gary, Every time I watched Tim ride, I had no idea how that "little, fat man" could have such a deep, natural seat, just as I could never figure out how tall, lanky Miguel Vasques was able to throw the quad with such ease. McQuay's rides on the great $5 Million, NRHA All Time Leading Sire Hollywood Dun It were just spectacular. His rides on Reminic N Dunit were almost as spectacular. From what I have seen Dun It crossed on Reminic is going to produce a whirlwind, plus the beautiful golden palomino with the incredible long mane and tail(my dream someday). In 2004, Reminic N Dunit made history when he won the NRBC Open Championship for the second year in the row, ridden by Dell Hendricks, an other great trainer.
Well, IF that horse is anywhere near a Reiner with a sliding stop well trained, this one needs to go back to school and take the monkey on its back too..sorry cant help it but that is one ugly stop for a horse doing a show like that..sloppy!! I am not a Trainer, never claimed to be, and havent played one on TV!!:)))

She appears to have lost a stirrup?

She might want to go back and get that horse broke at the poll?

JC,
Even a bad night for a great reiner, doesn't look like this.

The camera ony records 1/200th of what is happening here.
Jimmy,
Why are you alibiing? I would say the camera capture pretty well what was happening.
Wade Burck
...That's 1/200th of a second.

So, I was trying to be kind. Very sad Reiner indeed.
The photo quality was fantastic on all the pictures!
Thanks for posting them.
