Larry,
Every "horse show" that opened beautifully, years later look's like this. The first thing a successful program does is get rid of the good trainers/top riders when ticket sales slump, and put in cheaper local talent. This is the end result of every horse that is over 5 years old. A tough thing about this kind of show is coming up with new and fresh things to show the public, without getting rid of all the old stock and purchasing new for retraining. Different from a circus, which comes back in a year and most have forgotten what was there before, in a permanent setting folks may go 3,4 times a year before growing tired. Might be why there has never been a successful permanent circus? When some one is asked "what did you think of the horse show," the response depends on whether they are Clinton Anderson or Dianne Olds Rossi or Joe Schmoe from Newark. As Buckles would enjoy an elephant act by content and how it was presented, so goes for a horse show.
