Milt Herriott with the Schell Bros. elephants owned by George Engesser in the early 1930's.
Five elephants in this picture but I only have four listed during this time period "Ruth", "Mary", "Patsy" and "Bolo" a young male.

Thanks for showing my Dad. There were just four according to my dad, etc. Mary came from Hall's cellar and dad told me over the years that your dad was there when he came to get her. He had her do the head carry. Ruth was a nice elephant and on Barney Bros. later she was the one my dad turned loose on the lot on arriving and I was six and had a lttle bull hook and would watch her and come running to my dad if she started to walk off the lot. I thought I was cutting a big cheese. Patsy and Bolo would both die on the Schell-Zellmar in qtrs. in late thirties. Johnny

Ruth went on to live at the Little Rock Zoo in Arkansas for forty years until her death in 1977. She was the facility's first elephant.

Mr. Herriott,
Can you share when Ruth was on Barney Brothers?
