Walter worked as a union stage hand here in his hometown of Nashville for the last dozen or so years of his life.
When I first met Walter, visiting the Ringling show in the '60s, I was astounded at his range of talent. He did a rousing comedy trampoline, caught the flying act, and worked the cannon. A very great circus man, all around.
