This summer it will be 56 years since in 1956 RBBB packed its last big top in Pittsburgh, seen here; as usual in 56, they were late so menagerie was open air...

I was laid up that summer, but followed the industry's "annus horribilus" via BILLBOARDs a school friend brought me. To expand on Jerry's observation, too many dates saw late arrivals, blown matinees, bad lots, and railroad delays, until RBB became known as The Latest Show on Earth. Then came July 16th. I still have the LIFE magazine with the obituary.
