Suesz must have leased these from Paul Kelly after the King show bellied-up in 1956. I believe both Little and Big Jenny were in the Kelly herd; which one is this?
And didn't you also put some time in with the indoor RBBB show that year?
Yes I opened withthe Ringling Show but got my notice to report for the draft while in NYC.
I went to a location down at the Battery area and was told that they had their quota and to report to Hugo and where I got the same response.
Meanwhile I was contacted by Paul Kelly who had three elephants booked with Garden Bros. under canvas in Canada and needed a bull man so off I went.
Stayed there a couple of months until the show folded and on my way back to Peru, by chance passed by the Hagen Bros. lot and Bob Couls joined us out.
Stayed there until Paul contacted me saying that the FBI had been there looking for me since I had broken about 20 laws by exiting the country.
So I beat a hasty retreat to Bunker Hill, put the elephants in the barn and reported to the local FBI Office where I was directed to go straight to Hot Springs where I was then sent to Ft. Chaffee thence to Korea.
I was discharged in California in early 1959 with a Spec 3 rating (Cpl.) and returned to my family who were nearby with Rudy Bros. Circus.
Buckles;
Thanks, what a year !
Jerry Cash
I might add that it was with Garden Bros. that I met two, up and coming concessionaires Ron Morris and Irv Schuster.
Didn't either Frank Daly or Walt
King also work elephants on Garden
in those last days of their show
Ron has had an interesting career
in & out of show business & has
been very good to many of us
Ron and Irv hauled their concessions in a bread van bearing the word in large letters "ROBO" placed there by the previous owner.
In the morning the kids on the lot would ask me "What's a Robo?"
I explained that this was the home of the dreaded Robo Monster and instructed them not to get too close lest they awaken him.
I am looking for a Hagen Bros clown by the name of Roy E Adkisson. By some articles I've read he later became an electrician with the traveling circus. I believe it is possible that was a Little Person. If you know him or have suggestions on how I can locate information or family members of his, please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you. Email me at 4puddle@comcast.net
