Clyde Beatty Circus - - Workingmen hitching a ride on the pole wagon (back of the photo reads Rhinelander, Wisconsin 1953, which according to my route sheet would have been on August 5th).

It looks to me as if the pole wagon in this photo and the one in photo #2 are two different wagons(in some respects). Someone please clarify this for me. THANKS.

Great idea!
Everybody's there when it's time to go to work.
No stragglers, no alibis.

Jim: Same wagon. This was one of the wagons built by Lewis Diesel for Jimmy Edgar's Sparks Circus and which came to the Beatty show in 1949. Several of the wagons were modified over the years but most remained on the show throughout the rail years.

It's okay to stand on a pole wagon but don't stand on a wagon pole.
