Circus City USA #1 (From Jim Hall)

Now a trip to Winter Quarters where the first vehicle seen is the cook house.
Ah, the smell of fresh paint, new plywood and welding is in the air....busy, busy, busy!
The show heads to the Valley on 2/2/12.
All looks ship shape.

Have always liked that traditional

color scheme of red background

with yellow lettering & the blue

circles with bald face lies

Chic,
I agree with you on the truck colors and brings back many memories of the old Beatty Cole days.
To me this is circus.
Also Roger Boyd sure did a great job of painting.

Tandem axles front and back, they must dine off delicate china accompanied by silver candelabra.

Yes Harry Roger had a very steady

hand & his own sign shop up in

Valdosta he also lettered several

trucks for me back when

He was also 1 of my favorite show

equestrian directors although he

mangled many a family name

His words still ring in my ears

Isn't this the show currently

owned by JRN 2 3 or 4 (maybe the

son of Buddy) not direct lineage

JRN 3rd

John Ringling North II is the son of Henry Ringling (Buddy) North, forever entitled to have Ringling as his middle name, whether Feld Entertainment likes it or not.

Chic,
Roger was scream.
One time he said that a dog act (it wasn't a very good one) gave him a three page script for the act (probably to cover all the props that had to be moved all the time) and he ripped it in half and handed it back, saying that he knew how to announce.
Always enjoyed the side show pitch near the end of the show, especially when he had a lot of time to kill and maybe had visited George in the bottle.

Thanks Roger but wouldn't that

more accurately make him HRN II

I thought in order to use the

title of Jr or the 2nd 3rd or 4th

the name has to be the same as

the father's

How do you find it Larry

Chic Silber said...

That would be "George Dickel the

Wonder Worker" Bob who was always

mentioned right after the mangled

pronunciation of the Guanacos

I can recite the pitch verbatim

Dickel was his brand of sour mash

Chic,
My son is named after his great grandfather and he is the second (II).
Check out the kings and queens of England. There is a long time between some of the I's and II's, etc.

But those are all still in the

direct lineage in this case he

is taking the name of his uncle

It doesn't seem quite kosher

Why isn't he HRN II after his dad

I guess it doesn't have the ring

Roger Smith said...

It isn't that complicated. Henry Ringling North idolized his big brother, John Ringling North, who had no son, but if he had the lad would likely have been "John Ringling North, Junior". So since Henry Ringling North didn't want to name his son "Henry Ringling North, Junior", he named his son "John Ringling North the Second" in honor of his brother, John Ringling North, who had no son to name "Junior". See, I told you it was easy.
