The first month I was in the circus, I sat down on the ring curb with my feet in the ring, and Lou Regan whacked me in the back of the head and told me to never sit with my feet inside the ring, that it was bad luck, and if I had to sit on the ring, sit with my feet to the outside. What was up with that? I never did it again. Yellow costumes and peacock feathers also made Lou cringe.
