Caged Fury #25 (From Eric Beheim)

A close examination of this shot of the winter quarters main gate reveals what looks like a lion statue in the background. Could this be a studio prop or is this the actual main gate of some animal compound in the Hollywood area?

It looks like one of the lion statues that graced the front entrance of the Los Angeles Zoological Gardens/Lincoln Park Zoo. Bordering the north edge of the Park, Selig Place was named after William Selig, who in 1911 opened a zoo and constructed a movie studio. This may either be the entrance to the old zoo/studio, or they may have used the statue from there, but I know that a lot of filming was done in an around that area long after the studio/zoo closed and was used in later years as an independent amusement park. ~frank
