Erich Leinert (seen here) and his brother Karl were the sons of German circus performer Paul Leinert. It was Paul Leinert who built this cannon - and Erich who performed the act for Bertram Mills during the Christmas shows of 1927-28, and again in 1929-30. Karl Leinert took a second cannon unit to Japan in 1931. According to historian Fred Pfening Jr., Paul Leinert sold the cannon and five other acts to a Japanese circus following Karl's death. The Japanese cannon act was responsible for the death of Martin Brado-Leinert, who broke his neck while performing February 4, 1933.
