Mabel returned stateside to continue her Ringling contract for 1928. John Ringling had cancelled cage acts from 1925-1928, but restored Mabel to her tiger career on John Robinson. On that show, in Bangor, Maine, she suffered her worst attack to that time. The lead villains were the tigers Zoo and Shiek, who in a rare team effort, tore Mabel to pieces. The first to her rescue was the Lion King himself, Capt. Terrell Jacobs.
Cut to 1950. Parley Baer had co-founded Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters with on-air personality Ralph Edwards. When Edwards ran THIS IS YOUR LIFE on radio, Parley produced the episode honoring Mabel. Among the surprise guests was Mabel's nurse during her long recovery in the hospital in Bangor, Mary Reynolds.
