Buck was born Charles Frederick Gebhart in Vincennes, Indiana on December 12, 1891. Born of poor parents, he enlisted in Troop G of the U.S. Cavalry when he was 15. After being discharged in 1913 at Texas City, Texas, he signed up with the 101 Ranch Wild West Show, eventually becoming its top bronc rider. During the off-season, he worked on the 101 Ranch in Oklahoma. |

Another great figure with a circus background was also a native of Vincennes--Red Skelton, who never lost his love of circus. They now have a great museum and theatre to him. And a very strong website.
