The following color panels are all from a full-page ad for Camel cigarettes which appeared on the back cover of the September 12, 1938 issue of LIFE Magazine. (I seem to recall that this same ad or one similar to it ran in one of the Ringling programs from around that time.) The fact that it was done in comic strip fashion tells us much about the level of sophistication of the target audience.
