Leaving Neil Hamilton to make his way back to civilization as best he can on his own, Jane elects to remain behind with Tarzan and Cheetah (who has also survived the battle with the dwarf-men.) Released in April 1932, TARZAN THE APE MAN was a box office smash, prompting MGM to keep Johnny Weissmuller under contract and to begin pre-production work on a sequel that would be even bigger and better than the original.
