Has anyone ever questioned that these films depict Tarzan of The
Chimps not of the apes ? Still love 'em though.
In his books, E.R. Burroughs never specified the species of apes Tarzan was raised by. One would assume that he meant one of the African primate species -- the gorilla, the chimpanzee, and monkeys. However, a closer reading of the Tarzan books reveals that Tarzan’s apes are a different species of primate and are more closely related to man than the apes. They are shown to have a social structure, language, rudimentary laws and customs, as well as human-like emotions such as family friendship and love. Moreover, the Tarzan books also reveal that he can communicate with different ape species, such as orangutans, baboons and mandrills. MGM took the easy route and used chimps.
I would just have loved to see Tarzan with some Gorillas , as in Gorilla, gorilla , Gorilla.
Orangutans, Is this from the sequel "Tarzan Saves Borneo" ?
Very interesting comments and appreciated. i still want to see some Gorillas!
