I believe this is female giraffe Edith on the 1948 RBBB show. She did a walk around in the Christmas spec of that year. I had not known she had a rider, however. I do not think Edith made another spec appearance around this time. I saw the Monday matinee here in Atlanta on Nov. 15, 1948 but Edith did not appear in that performance.
In answer to Jackie’s question - -Yes, many giraffes have been ridden in circus arenas. The latest that I can recall here in USA was Mark Oliver Gebel as a young lad. He rode Dickie with RBBB Red in 1981-82 (I think that was the edition). Owing to the mat surface of the ring he only sat astride Dickie, who was also led around the arena in the spec.
