In 1978 we showed the Garden for 12 weeks, just shy of three months.

I remember one year during the 1970's that both the Red Unit and the Blue Unit were in Madison Square Gardens.

Not sure what year that was, I think it had something to do with the Boston Gardens not wanting the same unit two years in a row.

Sue.

Yes, Sue.
It was 1971, the red (101 edition) did the Garden and was immediately followed by the blue (100) which played the Garden the year before.
The advertisement heralded the return of the spectacular 100th Anniversary edition of the GSOE, back by popular demand to dazzle and delight Children of All Ages. I took artistic license with the phrasing, apology to Jack Ryan, Jerry Digney and all the great press agents.

Hello Sue,

I am not sure of the year, but it was the year that the 101st Edition (the Red Unit, with Gunther and Wolfgan Holzmaier) began Ringling Brothers stay at the Garden.

For the final two weeks of the engagement, the 100th Anniversary Edition returned to the Garden with Charly Baumann and a new addition, Dick Chipperfield, Jr. with his Leopard act and Lion act.

I saw both units perform. The Red unit twice. What a year for fans, like me, of cage acts.

Maybe another one of Buckles Blog's readers can fill in the year.

Henry
