From Jim Cole

Anybody know anything about this movie? htt://sophie-themovie/sophie.html

From the previews, it looks like another bad rap for circus elephants, Water for Elephants #2. Who's elephant (African) is this?

I am not 100% sure if this is, or was the Sophie who was at the Bowmanville Zoo. The actress mentioned she worked with Angus at Bowmanville, and the film was made outside of Toronto

In the movie, the girl's name is Sophie. The elephant is "Sheba". Someone commented on Facebook that this is quite possibly Micheal Hackenberger's elephant (African) who has that same name.

Go to the website and check out the preview trailer and decide for yourself. From what I see of it, the script is very "animal rights"... "Let's get Sheba away from the CIRCUS!" Looks like they already have a sequel in the works..."Save Sheba".

As far as "Water for Elephants" goes, I was uncomfortable with parts of it which seemed to be inspired by "under cover" elephant videos that the animal rights people keep showing.

Those of us who read this blog are "circus" one way or the other, and we can easily spot inaccuracys in circus movies...going back to GSoE! But 99.9% of movie goers have little to no knowledge of circus, and are easily influenced of the sterotypes that Hollywood (or Toronto) portrays of the circus culture.

Sheba is one of two Africans the late Harry Locker had at the Catskill Game Farm in NY state a few years back. Harry treated her very well and she trusted him completely when he had to medicate some sort of infection around one of her almost non visible tusks.
She seemed to be a very tractible lady.
I'm pretty sure I sent pictures of Harry & Sheba to Buckles and perhaps The White Tops sometime back.

On another note, saw something on CNN about Peta trying to free 5 Killer Whales at Sea World sighting something in the Constitution which in effect compares the freeing of slaves in the 19th century. one fellow on CNN said it would be thrown right out of court, but it is still getting publicity for bloody Peta.

"DAMN EVERYTHING BUT THE CIRCUS"
