Thanks Jimmy for posting the latest TZC circus photos. I know that you as an accomplished versatile builder, enjeneer in our biz. would certainly be interested in what Tarzan keeps progressing with. Having known him from those first days with Mills. Bros. and his family and watching him build such an incredidable circus of first class demensions in every way. What a beautiful engineered circus. To be admired both here and abroad. I am sure had he gone in the outside corporate world with his work ethics, knowledge and abilitiesw he would have been even a bigger success. Be that as it may his circus is just fabulous and he has certainly invested back into his biz. Very few do that. What a guy. He stays on top of everything and it is obvious to see. johnny herriott

Jimmy, was this the Detroit Shrine Date?
Seems like I recall hearing that the old Coliseum at the State Fairgeounds had been torn down.

Buckles,
I was told apparently that the Detroit Shrine date was not done for a short time due to the old building and real-estate having been sold? After a while TZ approached the club about doing it under the big top; so I was told. However, yes, it was the Detroit neo Shrine circus.

To John Herriott:
Thank you for the partially true complements.Yes, an accomplished versatile "Junk/Yard Scrounger".
A builder/engineer could be misconscrewed in my case,as an extreme case of three sheeting. However, yes, TZ is to be greatly admired for his go ahead attitude I also recall TZ working on the Mills show way back when while on the other hand I was with my family on the greater Sells Bros under the direction of Little Bob Stevens.I recall lots of excitement on the Sells show lot back then.

The Shrine Circus in Detroit [one of the first] has had over the years the finest circus talent available each year because of big league circus producers beginning withAgee, Curtis, Orrin Davenport providing great talent from Ringling along with the best circus talent availible at the time. All of the influential Shriners have always brought in the best acts and producers starting with the long rein of circus chairman-recorder Eddie Stinson who for over thirty years had Clyde Beatty as their feature. The last producer to bring in Beatty was Al Dobritch who would then bring in the Great Tarzan Zerbini as the logical succseser to Beatty. From Dobritch the torch passed on to, for short time L>N>Fleckles and then it would alternate between Tarzsan and Tommy Hanneford both top drawer producers who continued the par excellence established since it inception. Sadly the fairgrounds coliseum for a variety of reasons became out moded and the annual circus looked to be history. The influential Shriners involved with the circus have always been very pleased with Tarzan as a producer and personal friends with many, so bringing in Tarzan's first calass circus is it seems a new step in a right directio. In looking at these photos it is obvious the Tarzan has pulled out all the stops in making this one of the finest circus venues both here in America and abroad. Pretty good for the 18 yr. old kid that I annouved with a small five lion act on Mills Bros. Circus.johnny P.S. I would later announce Tarzan once again, but in the Detroit Shrine Circus when he was the producer and debut and presented the Louie Knie tigers that he had just purchased in Europe and I would be the Ringmaster. Pretty nice stuff.
