I believe we got the new headpieces in 1970 in time for the Garden. The where made by a Saddlery in Munich Germany which where making all kind of harnesses for Circuses for many years.
The elephant is Wells, the oldest one in the herd. She came from Circus Klutskie in Chechnia who at one time was one of the biggest shows in Europe. 72 or 73 Gunther gave her to a man who wanted her for his daughter because Wells couldn't do the long animal walks anymore. She was a bit of a tough one and not to many people could handle her but ones she left the Circus and moved in to the big barn that was build for her by the new owners she changed and the little girl used to take her for walks around there property which was quite big. I think she died about 5 years later.
I remember in qtrs. when all the new harness came in boxes. Not only head pieces but liberty harness as well. The Blue got twenty blue ones and Red got twenty red ones. They came with that chain wrap around the trunk. Before the day was out some one swung with a couple Blue Show headpieces plus on that day someone also sw3ung with a new flying act net. Irvin was furious and from that day on there was a security gate manned by a security goof and all of us that lived in the qtrs. with trailers were given gate keys for after hour entry. The gate security goof would be there from that day on. Nobody was ever found to be the culprits but some of us had a pretty good idea. Tanglefoot

My mother and tribe toured with Circus Klutskie before coming to the Cole Bros circus in 1936.In Poland and Czechoslovakia things were heating up there during that era.
I Believe she said they had some punk elephants born on the show,
I also have some paper clippings of a polar bear cage act with 40 young bears during that same time period I will have to do some digging to find it.
Yes Johnny a few of us had a good
idea of the "inside sales network"
& several more of us knew where
the net (& much other stuff) went
I believe the German harness shop
got program credit for some years
Nice to see your note Henry sure
hope things are going well
