Hi Buckles In 1960 when I was working for "The Music Fairs" (a chain of tented summer stock theaters in the Northeast) we opened 1 of our shows at "Starlight" before taking it on our circuit of 5 tents I remember having a good time out there with very nice folks Chic |

Chick, would those have been the Guber, Ford, and Gross music fairs? I remember the Storrowton Music Fair on the grounds of what was then the Eastern States Exposition (now the Big E). The manager there was Wally Beach who had been on the advance of Ringling in 1956--he was a great publicist. His grandfather, who hung around the place, was an old-time circus man having been with Sig Sautelle, Buffalo Bill, and others. Bernie Mendelson of O'Henry in Chicago supplied the tent and one of the Escalantes (Phil, I believe) raised it each season.
Dick Flint
Baltimore
Absopositutely Dick & Wally was
a partner in the Storrowton tent
along with the "Big E"
Lee Guber Frank (Felbin) Ford
& Shelley (Slimeball) Gross
Marvin Krauss who became a very
important Broadway GM & Producer
was the General Manager & yes it
was Phil who was the tentmaster
of all the tops & with his wife
Betty (Herbie Weber's sister)
had the concessions in Haddonfield
Jules Fisher who has become one
of Broadway's leading lighting
designers was a stage manager
Oh the times we had back then
Starlight Theater in Kansas City
is where you saw "Anything Goes"
It dates back to 1925 & has been
at its present location since 34
I remember having a good time
& some very nice folks out there
That Storrowton top was bought by
Ann Corio (famous stripper) & she
ran "This Was Burlesque" there
for several years after that
Wally Beach was very involved in
the vertical format filming of the
Beatty Show for the Chicago Hall
Of Science Building atrium that
ran there for many years
The screen was something like
10 stories high (tall & skinny)
He may have been the producer
