One aspect of circus life that DeMille did not include in TGSOE, but which is hinted at in RING OF FEAR, is the infamous G-Top (aka The Blue Room), where gambling and other illicit activities were used to separate the workmen from their hard earned wages, thus helping to insure that they would remain with the show. Here, boss canvasman Joe Applegate looks appropriately puzzled at how easily Gonzalez-Gonzales was able to take his money in a “game of chance.”
