| Hi Buckles, A month or so ago there was interest in the Ringling Show folling the 1956 closind under canvas. This set of slides was taken in Connie Mack Stadium in Philadelphia and they are marked 1957. Interesting to see how the Show was presented in a Ballpark. Several shots of the huge scoreboard in center field. This Ballpark was torn down years ago to make room for the new stadium.
From Buckles: "Bill, these are certainly nice pictures, you don't see too many from this era but whoever dated them was in error, I was on the show for a time in 1957 and none of the blankets or wardrobe look familiar. This stuff is a bit more opulent. The elephant above is "Marcella". |

Mr Cooker: Wonderful photos.
Since you say, "They are marked 1957..", do you know who took them ? Wondering if it might have been Bill Day who took many terrific slides. I, and others,
have, thanks to a fellow fan/historian have seen any number of slides which look, as these do, like they were taken yesterday.
Many thanks,
Paul Gutheil
When the greatest show on earth was THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH!!!
Mr Woodcock,
do you have any further info on Marcella.Scott Riddle named a cow at Blackpool zoo,UK with this name. She was named after the then director's partner but I am sure he would have heard this name talked of in 'elephant circles'.I would appreciate any information you may have and I will dig up pictures of the Blackpool'Marcella' and forward them on.I hope you and yours are well.
