Back during the silent film era, it was a common practice to film each scene at least twice so that there would be a second negative for making up prints for Europe. Once, after completing a particularly hazardous stunt, Buster Keaton was told by his director to get ready to re-shoot the stunt for the European negative. “Europe’s not going to see that stunt,” was Buster’s reply. One wonders if this was the only time that Gloria had to perform the foot-in-face trick for the camera, or if she had to do it at multiple performances.

I've never heard of anyone being injured doing the foot in the face.
The leg carry is another matter.
I remember hearing of Jeanie Sleeter being dropped on the ring curb and then yelling and shaking her fist at Arky while limping back to her elephant.
Arky was pretty upset too since he didn't approve of the elephant dropping things.

Look closely. That's Arky.
