Arky just happened to be in ythe right place at the right time. Amazing but I must admit he comes across in the movir=e very well. For those that never knew Arky he was a good looking guy with kind of curly red hair. Talked gruff and good dept. boss. Quite a guy. Buckles knew him better than me.Maybe there were more, but I knew three of his wives during, before and after. Helen later married elephant guy, showguy, Whitey Haven. Pat married promoter, producer Bill Kay and Tony [nee Martin] would be Tony Scott the rest of her days. I know of children, but am not sure if they were Arkies. Pat was always reluctant to talk about her Showgirl-elephant days. Johnny. The guy who played Arkies part in the movie looked quite a bit like Arkiw, so doubling would have been no problem. I can't imagine who would have played Hugo Schmidt part.
Back when Republic Pictures would be casting the lead for one of its serials, a primary requirement was that you closely resembled one of the stuntmen on the studio’s payroll. Even though Lyle Bettger was noted as screen villain who was able to summon a sudden rage or an insane light in his eye when his carefully coordinated plans went awry, one wonders if he was cast as Klaus because of his resemblance to Arky Scott.
Tell me about Bill Kay and where he started.
