Don't know how to say this after three very respected gentlemen have ID the gentlemen in the picture as Dr. William Mann. I served four years in the Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base outside of D.C. between 1957 - 1961. I met and was around Dr.Mann until his death in 1960. I don't think the man in the picture is Dr. Mann. I have often wondered just who is the man in the picture...He just doesn't look like he rolled out of the elephant car and ready to unload...He resembles that face in the crowd that Hollywood uses in a certain part of the film for the greatest effect....Maybe this will bring out more comments. Thank You Buckles for letting me post my comments.

I always wondered who this guy was.
Looks quite fastidious for having just rolled out of a bunk.
Might this be Dr. Mann of the D.C. Zoo on a Photo-Op?
Great observation Buckles and that is Dr. Mann for sure and I can bet how proud he was of that. Nice of DeMille and or Ringling to allow that.johnny
Surprisingly he is holding the bull hook with more authority than most of the elephant hands.
Like Buckles, I had known this man didn't fit in somehow, but never knew until today he is the revered Dr. Mann.
