On the subject of Hugo elephants this one was sure an ugly duckling.
Jack Moore bought her in 1959 for his Carson & Barnes Circus while we were out west with Rudy Bros. so I never heard who he bought her from.
Chang Reynolds sent me this 1962 picture.

Pat White: Didn't you have this elephant in a riding lion act on Carson and Barnes?

Daddy bought Suzi from a zoo and I don't remember which one. He sent Richard Shipley to take a truck and get her. Shipley was driving back to the show...it was late and dark and a driver stopped him and said " I
don't know what you have back there,But, it is coming out!!!"
Suzi was like a spoiled two year old.

All was well and they got back in good shape. I remember her as a spoiled two year old. Shipley and I worked the act with Mabel,Jenny, and Suzi.[seems like a hundred years ago

Dave:
Yes, I did work Suzi and Freddy (lion) in 1981 on C&B. Thanks for remembering. Sadly, Freddy died later that same year. I worked Bunny, Libby and Sis in 1982; Alta, Isla, Opal, Kelly and Tracy in 1983; then Kay, Barbara and Suzi '83-'85 (or '86, can't recall). Then Suzi was replaced by Minnie who I had in the act through the 1990 season, and Suzi did rides and pulled stakes. Not sure of Suzi through the '90's or beyond.

I want to add Suzy was always steady, quiet and dependable.
A really nice girl.
