This must be 1957. Inez was shot the spring of 1958 in Deland, Babe died in 1958 of TB while the show was in Pennsylvania, Cora was sold to Beers-Barnes for the 1958 season and ten years later died on the Hoxie show.

The herd was not added to until 1960 with the arrival of the Norma Davenport five.

Today's readers probably remember Pee Wee by her later name Pete.

I don't think Shipley or Miss Alpaugh were with the Beatty Show after it returned to trucks.
I suspect this picture might come from about 1955.

I know Colleen was there in 1959 as that's when I met her when Kitzman and I visited the show in Louisiana.

I don't know when Shipley left. I think Jimmy Odell had the herd at least by 1959 and then Steve Fanning came over in 1960. Rex must have come a couple of years later and Steve went with Strates.

For many years, this photo appeared in the printed program for Cleveland's Al Sirat Grotto Circus

This classic photo appears in Jane Beatty's book, DAVEY'S ADVENTURES WITH THE CLYDE BEATTY RAILROAD CIRCUS (New York, Abelard-Scumann, 1965). Colleen Alpaugh was given name credit, but Shipley was not, nor did Ms. Beatty name the bulls.

Other personnel credited are Clyde, Jr., of course, in the title role, Eddie Dullum, Rex Williams, Tommy Clarke's children Maria and Carlos, Herbert Weber, Jr., Lauro Morales, Charles Fuller and Jack Frielani.

Ms. Beatty told me Abelard-Schumann was most sympathetic to her husband's terminal illness, and as his condition worsened, they stepped up their publication date so he could enjoy knowing his wife's book was out there with his own 1965 book, FACING THE BIG CATS.

When I was back on the show in 1980and '81, Pete was the elephant who came in harness to pull the cages up the runs. Hoover held to all old-time circus traditions he could, and as part of his deal, he demanded an elephant assist in loading his cats. Pete's bullman was Alan. Someone will have to correct my spelling of his last name, which was something like Kusnicz--??
