This picture was taken Apr. 1948 in Menphis, Tenn, at the
Overton Park Zoo.
The elephant is reaching across a stone lined ditch about
8' wide and 8' deep, to reach the foliage on the other side
it is necessary for "him" to stand on the very edge of the wall.
Note that his toes are protruding over the edge and is extending
his left hind leg back as far as possible to maintain his balance.
I am told that he slipped off into the ditch some time ago and
since then is very careful.

"I wonder if this study was Government funded?"
