The San Diego Zoo’s big male Rachipur is shown standing next to one of the multi-purpose structures that are located in the large outdoor area where the elephants spend most of their time. It’s supposed to be some sort of state-of-the-art artificial tree which provides shade and which has locations where food can be placed so that the elephants can browse as they would on a tree in the wild. The structure’s “trunk” is a place for them to rub up against. It can also spray a water mist on hot days. |
