Osa is holding in her lap a Guereza colobus, a large, strikingly beautiful monkey with black body fur, white fur around the face, and flowing white mantle and tail. They draw a lot of attention in zoos. However I do not know of one ever being shown in a circus.
The fur of these monkeys was once favored by Kenyan Kikuyu chiefs as adornments for ceremonial capes.
On the ground in front of Osa is what looks like another type of colobus with a young chimp looking on.
Not only were the pelts of some species of colobus worn by African chiefs but monkey fur (colobus) coats and hats were high style for ladies in the US and Europe in the early 1900s. Today the big danger for colobus species in west and central Africa is the illegal market hunting of these monkeys and other forest animals for their meat.
Colobus monkeys make long leaps from tree to tree high in the forest. Their flashy looks and long leaps would have made a great addition to Davide Zoppe's monkey act.
Jim, better be careful, we don't want to tick Xena off.
