If this is the Forepaugh Dancing 8 on Forepaugh-Sells, it's obviously 1896 or later, and before 1908.
Buckles: I've never seen a complete list of the eight.
Of course there may have been some changes year to year.
Can you help out here? Thanks
Dave.
In a letter to Dick Conover dated 4/2/63 my dad wrote:
"Believe I absorbed the names of the 8 Forepaugh Quadrille elephants as John, Babe, Queen, Romey, Columbia, Betts, Dutch and Rubber."
The names that the Colonel sent to Conover are about the same as in the 1905 Forepaugh-Sells auction catalogue, with minor spelling differences: Betz; and Roomey. The group went to Baraboo when the Forepaugh-Sells show was split at the end of the 1907 tour and ended up leased out to the Gollmars, I believe, for a season, maybe two, then probably went out with Al Ringling's 1910-1911 reprise. A bull named Rubber was offered for sale thereafter.
