Otto Elmo Linkenhelt became Elmo Lincoln for the silents. Often credited with being the first Tarzan, there is a twist of trivia here. In 1918's TARZAN OF THE APES, Gordon Griffith played Tarzan as a child in the footage before Lincoln's appearance onscreen. Purists insist Griffith be credited as first, but the brawny Lincoln overshadowed the boy in the public's imagination.

OK, historians, here's your cue: When Lincoln's stardom faded, he went out on Seal Bros. Circus as "The Original Tarzan". Who can give us the season or seasons for Elmo under canvas?
